Wedding Cake Planning

Order your cake at least four months prior to your wedding to ensure that it will be delivered on time.

Finalize the number of servings needed. Once you have determined the number of servings needed, then you can determine the size of the cake needs.

The cost of the cake will be dependent on how elaborate the cake is. A basic cake is will be relatively inexpensive, while a more intricate or a large cake will be more expensive.

Discuss the site and season of your wedding with the Simply Cakes staff. For instance, an outdoor wedding in August would require an icing that will hold up in the summer heat.

Browse our Wedding Cake photo gallery and bring cake photos with you to the store to help create the cake of your dreams.

Be sure to put on your calendar to check with Simply Cakes two weeks prior to your wedding date to confirm the delivery date and time.

Wedding Cake Tips

Reducing Cost One way to reduce the cake cost is to order a smaller wedding cake for the bride and groom and serving most of the guests from sheet cakes. Ordering less intricate individual wedding cakes for each table will also help reduce costs.

Flowers Simply Cakes staff can assist you with choosing flowers for your cake. Be sure you avoid fresh flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Poinsettia and Wisteria, which are not food safe.

Freezing When saving the top tier of your cake, place it in the freezer for about five hours to firm the icing and protect the design. Next, after taking the cake out of the freezer, cover it with clear plastic wrap and seal it in heavy aluminum foil to prevent freezer burn. Be sure to enclose the cake in the supplied bakery box and freeze.

Wedding Cake Fun Facts

Originally, wedding cakes were little wheat cakes that were broken over the brides's head to bring good luck and fertility. Every guest would then eat a crumb to ensure good luck.

One tradition is that the bottom layer of a wedding cake represents the bride and groom as a family and the top layer represents them as a couple. The number of layer's in between represents each child the couple hopes to have.
